Superbowl XLVI LiveStream

Building further on some of the work we’ve done recently around sports and sporting events, the Pulse Analytics team pulled together a great LiveStream dashboard for the recent Superbowl game played in Indianapolis between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants.

The intent was to help people track which team was winning when it came down to social media volume. i.e., were people Tweeting more abou the Patriots or the Giants. Using key elements of our Pulse Analytics solution including the Live Map, Twitter Feed and Location Based Services the dashboard showed a live map of the world, with full zoom capabilities, and plotted geo-tagged Tweets for each team. We kept a running total for each time that started when you entered the page and ended when you left the page. It was a great way to get a feel for who was talking about the Superbowl and which team garnered most of the conversation.

The results were interesting – in the days leading up to the game, the New England Patriots outdid the Giants by almost 2:1. Immediately following the game, which the Giants won, the ratio flip-flopped and the Giants outran the Patriots by almost the same margin.
